Problem

CONTRIBUTING says just up on the branch is the test, but a Renovate branch is typically 100+ commits behind trunk; checking it out rolls other services' images back the moment the stack is brought up. Verifying #223 needed a different route and it wasn't written down.

Fix

One paragraph under Pull requests: apply the branch's diff to the trunk working tree, and discard the identical local copy before the post-merge pull.

Docs only. This is exactly how #223 was verified and synced.
